Pierrefonds Castle
On the edge of the Compiègne Forest, Pierrefonds is an invitation to travel back in time...
History, from the medieval period to the modern age, can be read on its white stones. Pierrefonds is above all its castle, an imposing edifice built in the style of a medieval fortress and later redesigned by Viollet-le-Duc on orders from Napoleon III. Its mighty silhouette can be seen for miles round.
The lake stretches out peacefully in the heart of the village, offering the opportunity to enjoy a bit a rowing or simply lazing about the water's edge. For the delight of young and old, a tourist train and a horse-drawn carriage wind their way through the village.
