Soissons broad beans

Soissons beans ©Ville de Soissons-2011 / The Soissons bean, a local, ancestral speciality!

On the fertile soil of the Soissonnais, in the Aisne department, grow Soissons beans

The fertile soil of the Soissonnais in the Aisne department produce these famous beans.

According to legend, during the Hundred Years War, the Black Plague ravaged the region. The fleeing farmers, taking their harvests with them, lost a few seeds along the way. Upon their return, the peasants were more than a little surprised to discover their fields covered with broad beans!

A gift from Heaven, the Soissons bean is still grown in the area and the farmers, proud of their heritage, offer gourmands a wide range of sweet and savoury products.
